Inspired by the sounds that the Voyager probes recorded during their journey through the solar system, Voyager is an interactive app and installation for experiencing this. Even though sound cannot travel in space, sensors on the probes picked up the electromagnetic vibrations of the solar wind interacting with various planets’ atmospheres. The app uses the facetracking to determine if someone is looking at it. When it detects a face, it shows a random planet which will disappear if the observers attention drifts away (or if another person enters the space). If no face is detected for more than a certain length of time, the app assumes that the person has left. It will then move on to another planet and wait for the next observer. The concept for this installation was to produce an interactive experience which had no obvious interface and instills a state of solitary meditation.
